Like most companies today, information technology (IT) business is definitely looking for more customers or has the task of internal projects. To get a new customer or get a project accepted, will need to write a business proposal.

Never written one? A proposal-writing is not scared does not have to be a daunting process, and after writing his first proposal, all the others will come much easier.

Do not make the mistake of sending all your prospects a proposal identical sales. A proposal to an organization or specific person is much more likely to succeed.

Now, back to basic order described above, begin your proposal with a cover letter and a title page. In the letter, write a brief personal introduction and provide all relevant contact information so that the customer can easily get in touch for more information. The cover is exactly what its name suggests: A page with the title of your specific proposal (eg, "Proposed Services website Birchwood Company", "Building a Document Management System" or "Plan for updating the computer network of MWP Corporation ").

Then, after this introduction, write the section describing potential customer needs. In an extensive proposal for a complex project, provide a summary that precedes the detailed pages. The proposals to corporations, this summary is usually called an Executive Summary. In complex but less corporate proposals, the summary is usually called a Client Summary. On this page summary and detailed pages of this section, describe the needs and goals of its clients and discuss the limitations or restrictions that may be associated with the project. Do not insert your own ideas however; This section is where you demonstrate that you understand the customer's needs.

In the last section of the proposal, have the opportunity to promote their projects, products and services. In this section pages that describe exactly what you have to offer and what it will cost included. This section should contain pages with titles such as general services, benefits, features and cost summary, it must also incorporate more detailed pages that fully describe your products and services, explain how you can meet customer needs, and list of associated costs. If you are proposing an internal project of the company, not only do you need to look good, have to make sure your boss looks good. You need to trust that will give birth to obtain their support. In this section of the final proposal, one must provide pages describing your organization (about us or Company History), and the pages that explain their skills and experience or provide information to other customers. These pages are our customers, staff, References, Testimonials, qualifications and skills – you need to instill confidence in the potential client that can deliver the goods and services they are seeking.

So there you have it: All the basic steps to creating your proposal. Now for the finishing touches. After inserting all the words and the details of your proposal, spend some time making it visually appealing. Add your company logo, choose different fonts or use custom bullets, or consider using colored page borders. Do not go overboard, though; you need to match the style of your proposal to the style of your business.

Not send your proposal out before spell check and proof of each page. If possible, have someone outside the organization or project then pass final review. It is too easy to overlook mistakes in family information.

Finally, the proposal print or save as a PDF file and deliver it to your customer. In the world of modern business, is widely seen to email the PDF files, but note that a printed, signed personally, and (where possible) proposal delivered by hand could make a bigger impression, because it shows that is willing to make an extra effort to do the job.

There are many ways to skin a cat, so the saying goes. Planning software and hardware tech seem to fit into the same category.

When some models tend to notice again and again, there are plenty of ways in which the product planning occurs in the technology industry.

PRODUCT PLANNING developer focused

A typical way is what I call "developer – driven". That was when an engineer, software developer, or inventor comes with a new way of applying existing technology in a novel way to an unsolved problem differently. Or in some cases, the promoter is a true visionary, and indeed a revolutionary new technology that blows away the current way of doing things is invented.

When this developer – driven model is very common, and when it works can be blockbusters, this approach is fraught with problems – who repeatedly have been hired to clean up the results of this approach in my consulting practice. The reason for this is that companies using this approach usually have a technology or product – centered worldview. And what is lacking in vision?


Now I do not need to insult all technicians out there who have taken the lead in product development. Some have a natural gift for product planning, and are very effective. However, the reality is that product developers are not trained, nor are typically derive any pleasure – trying to extract product preferences, unresolved issues and problems of workflow potential customers. Many times customers do not really know what they want, or have some other program that can lead to a product planner in the wrong direction – unless the planner is experienced and skilled in the discovery of desired information. Let's face it, developers are able to design hardware and write software code. Many do acquire skills in product planning – but in my experience, it is far from the majority.

The end result of a developer – driven mainly one product was launched, makes a few clients, but then put before gaining much traction and critical mass in the market. Precious cash is burned, and the typical lament is that "it is a great product, if we could find someone to sell". What often believed to be a customer – facing sales and marketing issue is quite largely a product that meets customer needs – as a result of defects in the product planning process.

Customer centric PRODUCT PLANNING

Another common form I've seen planned outputs is what I call the customer – centric approach. This method is characterized by the use of some "model client" with a fanatical devotion to the use of inputs to develop the product. Many times you will realize this in a company that has previously failed with the developer – focused on the model above. Sometimes technologists are the same in his second attempt. Now, you may be thinking, this is the way. But while this approach is certainly an improvement in some aspects more than a purely technological approach – which also has some limitations.

The client-centered model works well if you are developing a very limited niche market – or at least one that is fairly homogeneous. Problems occur in two areas. First, if your target market is heterogeneous in nature, it is easy to overlook that part of the market that is not represented among the select few customers model. Second, this approach can sometimes stifle innovation. In high technology, customer input is very important – but customers should not be doing their planning products for you. Each has its own peculiar, unique for their companies in particular agendas. In addition, customers may not notice mainly enough beyond their problems and needs – imagine how to apply technology to radically improve your workflow, 2–3 years down the line. So if only build what they say you build, you will end up with a product throughout especially the mundane, and also one that contains a number of features that the largest market scratch their heads about why they were included. Worst of all, the product can be almost obsolete by the time it goes out, because you have not looked far enough ahead of the market, and built – in what is possible and desirable for the future. This cross – of ideas is invaluable, and can lead to innovative approaches that are not derived from orthodoxy. But at the end of the day, after all the discussion has taken place, there must be mutual respect and trust in the competence of each functional area. Marketing people should be trusted in matters of marketing; developers should be trusted in matters of engineering. If that trust is not there or is lost during the process, a successful product is unlikely.


When done right, the market – centered approach is optimal product planning. Usually carried single and double solid, occasionally run.
